GENERAL TIPS AND INFO ...
Due to the nature of the Internet, download problems sometimes occur through no fault of the Web site that you are trying to view. If you have a poor Internet connection, are trying to view a site at a time of day (or evening) when there is heavy Internet traffic, or if there are Internet traffic "bottlenecks" taking place somewhere in cyberspace, download times may slow down significantly. This can cause problems with the display of images and the general operation of ANY Web page that you are trying to view – especially where more sophisticated types of Web programming are involved. Unfortunately, these circumstances are also known to cause problems with the download of files necessary to run java applets – which we use for the navigation of this site. Although we cannot control these circumstances, we have listed suggestions below that can help to eliminate problems:

The development of the TIF Online web site was standardized to the following 32-bit browsers and versions:

  • Netscape Navigator 3.0 and above
  • Netscape Communicator 4.0 and above
  • Internet Explorer 3.0 and above
  • AOL 3.0 and above

Problems occur on any type of system if certain browser features have not been enabled. To ensure proper viewing of this site, please check your browser "Preferences", or "Internet Options", to make certain the following features are "turned on":

  • cookies
  • javascript
  • java

If you do not know where to find these options in your browser, please contact the browser manufacturer's technical support staff.

If the features listed above are set up properly in your browser, but you are still experiencing difficulties, please try reloading the page or the top frame containing the navigation menu. If this does not correct the problem, please follow these steps:

  1. Exit (close) your browser.
  2. On your hard drive, locate the Netscape "Cache" folder and delete all of the temporary files within it.
  3. Reboot your Netscape browser and access the site again.

If you still cannot view the navigation menu, please please contact us using the form below.

MACINTOSH USER PROBLEMS ...
In the past, Macintosh users viewing this site with Netscape Communicator 4.0 and above have had some difficulties viewing the top navigation menu: the images either do not appear, or appear in a distorted way. We have tested and implemented a correction for this problem. Note: Because of the change we have made, some Mac users may experience a slightly longer download time for the top navigation menu.

If you are a Macintosh user and are still experiencing problems viewing the top navigation menu, please try reloading the page or the top frame containing the navigation menu. If this does not correct the problem, please follow these steps:

  1. Exit (close) your browser.
  2. On your hard drive, locate the Netscape "Cache" folder and delete all of the temporary files within it.
  3. Reboot your Netscape browser and access the site again.

If you still cannot view the navigation menu, please fill out and send the form at the bottom of the page.

AOL USER PROBLEMS ...
If you are an AOL user and cannot view the top navigation menu, please check to make sure that your browser a 32-bit version of the AOL browser. Generally, anyone running Windows 95 or Windows 98 would have the 32-bit version of AOL's software. However, for reasons unknown to us, many Windows 95 and 98 users seem to be using 16-bit versions of AOL. The 16-bit version of AOL does not support java, which makes it impossible to view the top navigation menu, or any of the other java applets on this site. If you are a Windows 95 or Windows 98 user and are currently using a 16-bit version of AOL, our best advice is to upgrade to the 32-bit version of AOL 4.0 (which supports java and javascript). Please call the AOL technical support staff for instructions on how to upgrade. Also, please note that Windows 3.1 users will NOT be able to run the 32-bit version of AOL.

WEBTV USER PROBLEMS ...
We do not recommend trying to view the TIF On-Line site using WebTV. As far as we know, the browser included with WebTV is only a 16-bit version of the software, which is not capable of running java. This makes it impossible to view the top navigation menu. It is unknown whether a future version of the software will include java capabilities.
